about
Hi, I’m Jewel, a third-year Journalism student at The University of Texas at Austin. Currently, I’m a Digital Content Intern for Moody College and a Digital Media Intern for Texas Tasty. I also serve as a Life & Arts reporter at The Daily Texan, where I cover stories that explore culture, music, and the arts through a long-form, narrative lens.
This past May, I participated in a Documentary Photography Storytelling May Term in Dublin, where my group and I focused on covering asylum seekers. During this time, I photographed feature profile stories, protests, community uprisings, and English learning centers.
Previously, I’ve worked with KUTX, Burnt X Orange, and the Knight Center for the Americas, gaining experience in digital media, broadcast production, and multimedia storytelling.
I’m passionate about feature writing, especially long-form stories that showcase people, creativity, and the arts. Alongside writing, I pursue photography and visual storytelling, gaining experience capturing protests, live events, portraits, and everyday street life.
With a deep love for movies, music, and culture, I’m currently expanding my skills in social media strategy, with a growing interest in the world of public relations and communications.
If I’m not writing or taking photos, I’m usually hosting movie nights, exploring Austin, or at a concert.
